Housing meets livelihood: San Roque Eco-Village Turnover and Skills training Graduation
October 25 was like any other Thursday for most, but for families now residing in the San Roque Eco-Village in Salcedo, Cagaut Samar, it was a joyous occasion like no other. A total of 37 families were being given the keys to their new Cement Bamboo Frame Houses, permanent shelter a safe distance away from the disaster risk area they used to live in.
Sorsogon’s first Bamboo Village turn-over
A cheerful ceremony was held last October 23, 2018 to celebrate the turn-over of Sorsogon’s first bamboo village in San Lorenzo Bibincahan, Sorsogon City. A total of 50 urban poor families finally have permanent homes in the Don Jose M. Berenguer Sr. Base Bamboo Village where houses were built using the Cement Bamboo Frame Technology.

BARC 2018: Bamboo, rattan, and global sustainable development
This year, INBAR founded and organized the Global Bamboo and Rattan Congress (BARC) 2018; the first international conference on the potential uses of bamboo and rattan for sustainable development. The conference focused on policy-making and the theme “Enhancing South-South Cooperation for Green Development through Bamboo and Rattan’s Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals”.
