Early January 2018, 70 disaster resilient houses were turned over to families affected by Typhoon Yolanda, many of whom were left with temporary shelters or without a place of their own.

The celebration opened with a Eucharistic Mass, followed by the turn-over and awarding ceremony where the beneficiaries officially signed their housing policies. Barangay Captain Hon. Heidi Macalalad welcomed the attendees of the ceremony which included representatives of Base Bahay, Daughters of Charity, various local government units (municipal and provincial), as well as the beneficiaries of the St. Louise de Marillac Village.

Mayor Junjie Pomferrada gave a message thanking Base Bahay and Daughters of Charity for helping them reach their goal to help the survivors of Yolanda. While General Manager of Base Bahay, Ms. Maricen Jalandoni emphasized that receiving the house is just the first step. “Now it’s up to you …to take care of the houses- more importantly, to take care of your family, to make this house a home. Nasa inyo na iyon (now it’s up to you).” She ended with saying that we all have to help each other as we go about our future.

Sr. Maria from the Daughters of Charity reiterated this in her closing statements saying that the efforts do not end with the house- but in continuing to organize and build the community.
